Villa Merida, a restored late 19th-century nobleman´s estate, stands a mere five blocks from Barrio de Santiago, one the most historical zones of colonial Merida. Built around a central courtyard with expansive tropical gardens surrounding a sculpted swimming pool, much of the original structure has been preserved: arched verandas, high-beamed ceilings, enormous wooden doors and cool floor tiles.
