Mexico Boutique Hotels Introduces Xaloc Resort in Exotic New Destination

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico–Mexico Boutique Hotels is pleased to announce the addition of a new hotel and destination on the extreme northern point of the Yucatan Peninsula where the Caribbean Sea meets the Gulf of Mexico. The hotel is Xaloc Resort and the destination is Isla Holbox, Quintana Roo–as geographically close to Cuba as one can be in Mexico and one of the most ecologically diverse areas of the world. This is the Utopia of expatriate Spaniards, Goncha Juan Sabater and her husband Juan Felix Sánchez who chose the remote island for its "sense of being truly removed from the rest of the world", says Sabater.

MBH director general John Youden commented, "Xaloc Resort perfectly fits our criteria–it's very intimate in size with just nine bungalows and hospitality couldn't be more genuine. It delivers a distinct experience that represents a special facet of Mexico's varied geography and culture. This destination will intrigue travellers who like to get off the beaten track." The resort has been designated as secluded, primitive and casual according to the company's method of defining its hotels with "key words" to denote the vacation experience one can expect.

Xaloc Resort is easily reached from Cancun, approximately two-and-a-half hours by car to the water taxi launch at Chiquila, then a 20-minute ride across Laguna Yalahau. Approaching the island, Xaloc Resort comes into view as an exotic, tropical village with each bungalow built under its own seven-metre high palapa. Sanchéz, an architect, chose this typical form of construction employing hardwood and palm leaf thatch and has creatively combined it with Mexican style and colour. Design is simple and rustic with spacious colourfully tiled bathrooms and exterior porches where hammocks are slung for the ideal siesta. Four bungalows are clustered around the pool and have full ocean views while five have a garden and partial ocean view.

The ocean-front swimming pool may be overlooked for the attraction of the crystalline sea where one can wade out for hundreds of feet. Kayaks, golf carts and bicycles are available for rent. Yucatecan cuisine with fresh fish and lobster brought daily to the beach front by local fisherman is the order of the day in Maja'che restaurant.

For nature-lovers, Isla Holbox packs the diversity of wild beaches, rivers, mangroves and jungle into 32 square kilometres and is part of the important Yum Balam eco-reserve. Open-ocean fishing, fly fishing in Laguna Yalahau, kayaking through the mangroves, snorkelling to sight turtles and manta rays, bird watching (40,000 flamingos visit annually) and sighting dolphins are outstanding activities to enjoy. Xaloc is a short walk from the quaint town of approximately 1,500 inhabitants which has a selection of restaurants, excursion operators, hammock makers and a guitar workshop.

Rates range from US$96.00 to $186.00 including taxes, depending on season and room type. Transfers from Cancun or Merida can be pre-arranged. Mexico Boutique Hotels suggests travellers consider including Xaloc as part of a Yucatan circuit itinerary linking one or more of the group's hotels in Cancun, Isla Mujeres and Merida.
