CasaSandra - Isla Holbox
Detailed - Rustic - Simple Elegance

Owned by Pablo Milanes´ muse and co-author, Sandra Perez, CasaSandra on Holbox Island is a reflection of her passion for the arts. A screenwriter, painter and full-time artist, Sandra has lined the walls with original works—hers and other Cuban artists—, personally designed the furnishings and named the rooms after inspirations: Ilusión (Illusion), Amanecer (Dawn), Sentido (Feeling)É

By infusing CasaSandra with her unique sensibilities and an artistic touch, she has created a getaway that is both refreshing and exquisite. Bed linens are silken to the touch, pillows are hand-embroidered, and the amenities are of the signature organic kind, specially created for her guests. Details? Look everywhere: in one room, the mirror frame is made of cinnamon sticksÉ Outside, hammocks and sunbeds await beside the Caribbean Sea; at night, luminarias line the sand.

Each of the 12 guests rooms and the Luxury Villa at CasaSandra (most especially the new master suites) are spacious and located in three separate beachfront buildings. Well-designed and full of creature comforts, they have an air of laid-back sophistication. The atmosphere is welcoming, giving guests the feel of having arrived at a good friend´s beach house.

CasaSandra´s cuisine is a delightful mix of local specialties, Cuban favorites and even Asian-inspired dishes. If you´re looking for the best mojito on Holbox Island, you´ve come to the right place. During the day, bare feet are welcome; at night, it has a rustic elegance that calls for white linen skirts and guayaberas.

The hotel also boasts the only Spa on the island—indeed, for such a tiny retreat, there is quite a bit to boast about.

Consider This ...
While Holbox is under three hours from Cancun, it may as well be on another planet. Time stops here. If complete repose seems too much to bare for several days, consider combining your holiday and spending a few nights in bustling Playa del Carmen, quaint Isla Mujeres or Merida, the Yucatan´s Colonial jewel.

You´ll Especially Love
The artwork on the walls, the Mojitos and the fact that you can take off your shoes and not put them on again until you go home.

You May Want To Know
This is one of the very few places in the world that you can observe and actually swim with the extraordinary whale shark, described as a very large spotted shark actually considered to be the largest fish in the world. Their arrival commences out at sea off Cabo Catoche in May and the experience is practically guaranteed at Isla Holbox from mid-June through September. This particular shark is a filter feeder (plancton and small fish) as opposed to feeding on large prey. They are normally at the surface, so you can easily see them from the boat and snorkel with them.

What´s Fabulous Here
The ocean! You can walk out for miles and just sit in the water. Whether you kayak, snorkel, fish, swim or just sway in your hammock, the waters of Holbox will seduce you.

Who It Would Appeal To
Those seeking to truly unwind. There are no flashy clubs, trendy lounges or even automobiles circulating on this island. Holbox is a place to rediscover nature, your partner or yourself.

"... We had a fabulous relaxing time and were pampered by the very capable staff. They made every attempt to please us and went far beyond any expectations to see that we had a romantic retreat to celebrate our anniversary. The special efforts of all are far to numerous to list. To mention just a few, on the last day of our visit and our anniversary, they started at breakfast with our plates decorated with hearts, "I Love You" flags were placed in toothpicks in olives at lunch, our suite was filled with flowers and petals. Last but not least, our dinner surprise was a very romantic outdoor meal under the stars with candles and lantern... All too beautiful to describe... We will certainly visit CasaSandra again and look forward to again seeing our lovely new friends that made our experience so enjoyable."

"What words can explain the absolute delight we have both had over the last 5 days! Tranquil, delightful, relaxing... I could go on. All your staff were absolutely wonderful... CasaSandra is somewhere I will always think about, to put a smile on my face. It was a beautiful beginning to our holiday. I could mention everything... but, chef, your food was outstanding!..."

"...Isla Holbox is a charming and calming place...The services from housekeeping staff to the messages by the spa masseur were top notch. The food and beverage services by the staff were exceptional. My first day that I was there I had asked for iced tea. They made the tea and asked for instruction to make it better. Each day after that they had prepared fresh black tea for me each morning, so that I could have iced tea each afternoon while sunning and relaxing in the hot sun. Talk about catering to the customers needs! Bravo!"

"By general consensus, the best restaurant on the island is at Casa Sandra hotel, where diners sip mojitos by candlelight and the Cuban chef visits each table to describe the specials."
